Yes, there are quite a few notable examples of the church’s work in that early era, particularly with lepers, though the point I was trying to make was simply that a structured and universally-available system of healthcare came about a bit later (because of their influence and especially that of 6th century Benedict) in the Middle Ages and as a result of the social system created by the monastic tradition.
